09/21/2007: "Checking on the bees"
I wanted to get some cider pressed, so my oldest daughter and I went down to the farm last weekend. The apple and plum harvest was quite small compared to last year: we only managed to get two gallons of cider, so dad is going to have to resort to store-bought cider to fill the remainder of his five gallon carboy. But, we had a good time, and looked in on the bees while we were there.
Here Channa has taken the cover off the super, and she is starting to lever up one of the bee frames.

It was a cloudy and cool day, and the bees were exceptionally docile. We didn't even use the smoker. Channa saw that the bees had pretty well filled up the frames in the middle of the super, and so she swapped some of the empty frames on the ends into the middle so the bees would be filling those with honey in the last few weeks of summer.
