11/21/2006: "Signs of Winter"

I wanted to share some of my favorite photos from the last week. The big storms over the last few weeks has stripped all of the trees of their leaves. The seasonal creek was suddenly full of water! We could watch the fog rising in the evening.

Here is one lone ash tree at one end of the pasture. It's a beautiful gnarly old tree. From the front, the tree resembles a man standing with his arms reaching up to the sky. It's one of my favorite trees on the property.

One of Ed's trees that is especially photogenic. I was so happy to see that the pond was starting to fill. Nate and I were wishing for a little person to come out and enjoy the perfect toyboat sailing pond!

But for now, our little ones are three cats. As the winter sets in, the birds flock up and feed on the walnuts that have fallen in the yard. For the last week, two of the three cats have sat together first thing in the morning, side by side, for about 10 minutes, watching and "hunting" the birds. The cat on the left is Shakespeare Bronze and the little black one is Winter. Winter likes to "chirp" whenever she sees potential prey. She is by far the most active hunter of the group. So far, we haven't seen any mice in the house!
